Re: War by Sail released!

Thanks Schoon - glad you're enjoying the rules! Yes we usually just hold the wind & Turn aide above a ship when turning, it can be a little fiddly, but no worse than holding a tape measure while moving a miniature in my opinion. (also I take it you found the thing in the PDF!) I don't check this...

Re: Some info on 17th C Danish ships

Great, here's the link - they are 2 scans of the originals, around 12 pages each. Its in Danish, but some of the important details in the tables have been translated via comments in the PDF - just click on the little yellow boxes. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/55b2tkdv8dl44tg/AADM3nBc2jgzeHGMlubo6y6Fa?...

Re: Names of English cannons

Thanks Navclio, I've had a look around for that book, but only ones I could find were $300! It seems like the threedecks entries for the English change to "-pdr" after about 1700, so I'll probably choose a conflict around then or after to make the cut off. The ships I looked at still liste...

Names of English cannons

When did the English Navy make the transition from "Culverin", "Demi-Culverin", etc. into "18-pdr", "12-pdr", etc. ? So far the entries on threedecks pre-1700 have all been in the named version, rather than the pounds (although the odd 3-pdr, 24-pdr, and 12-pd...

Re: French ships of the Nine Years War / War of the Grand Alliance

Thanks so much for your detailed reply Navclio - very interesting stuff :) I was talking to someone knowledgeable about this period down at the wargames club today, and I gleaned the following information: Crew Quality for sailing: Dutch > English > French Crew Quality for boarding / fighting: Engli...
