More apologies

Ir would appear that someone at my isp decided to change some settings, without asking, which resulted in some outages on this forum during the 31st March 2024.

I think we are now back up and running OK, but please let me know if you have any issues.

Yes, there's huge numbers. I'm afraid I do not know of anything published.

Re: Prize Ships 1798-1802,etc

Look for the high court of Admiralty records on the National Archive discovery site. https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

Use the advanced search and the reference HCA, filter by the year range you are intersted in.

Re: Byng's 1755 Channel force

You might find ADM 8/30 Admiralty Disposition book for 1755-1756 of use. Should tell you where all RN ships are stationed, in theory.

Re: HMS Paisley - Charles Nevins commander

OK, some more looking has happened. FIrstly there are two hired brigs called Pasley, both also known as "Sir Thomas Pasley", the 1800 one, commanded by Charles James Niven ( I found a reference) and captured in December 1800, and the 1801 brig commanded by WIlliam Wooldridge. The two are m...

Re: HMS Paisley - Charles Nevins commander

Hi I'm assuming this is the hired brig Pasley https://threedecks.org/index.php?display_type=show_ship&id=11523 There is no officer called Charles Nevins in the Royal Navy, the nearest name I can find is Charles James Niven, who was in service in 1800. https://threedecks.org/index.php?display_typ...

Re: J Norman

Hi Exam boards were held on the day and the result known immediately. In Mr Normans case the two examaning officers were Edward Spragge and John Bentley, the later captain of the yacht Charlotte at the time. He was later commissioned into the Deptford on 25 June 1756, just after the battle. I'm atta...

Re: Cape Roxant

I believe that Cape Roxant is a point at the entrance to the River Tagus, near Lisbon. The only online reference I can find is in an 18C book on navigation here https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=I-JeAAAAcAAJ&pg=PA178&lpg=PA178&dq=Cape+Roxant&source=bl&ots=fkg_js0ASy&sig=ACf...
