Re: Guernsey Privateers circa 1779-1782

I think it's a bit more complex. The 1694 instructions state a Cross of St George (Red cross on white background) at the masthead. The Red Ensign, which would be carried at the stern. The distinguishing jack, a Jack being specifically a flag carried at the bow, on the jack staff which was carried at...

Re: Guernsey Privateers circa 1779-1782

Re: Dying on board ship abroad (18th century)

The lack of a commanding officer after his death is because no commission for one has yet been uncovered, indeed there may not have been one. In these circumsta...

Apologies

I was made aware that it was impossible to add text to posts. This was because of an upgrade in the server software being incompatible with the version of the board software.

The board has been upgraded and hopefully all is now OK.

Re: Need information on HMS Wolf- 1731-1741

Hi One of our editors, Rob Boon has sent me a link to an privy council document on John Drapers reappointment as a RN Captain. He was dismissed by court martial for the loss of the Wolf. That states the sloop was "cast away on the Windward passage on the West Caicos". http://aalt.law.uh.ed...
