Charles MARTIN HMS ACHILLE Battle of Trafalgar

Post by Prussian »

My direct paternal great, great, great grandfather Charles MARTIN served as an ordinary season on HMS ACHILLE (transferred from KITE) at the Battle of Trafalgar. He was a man of colour who was born in 'upper germany' c1770. He came to England via France (gentleman's servant) about 1795. He settled in Frome, Somerset following his discharge in 1815. He spoke several languages fluently and was a bit of a musician. Understand that service records do not exist for ordinary seaman, although have found him in ship musters.
