Hello everybody,

Who could help me find out what happened to my direct ancestor John Essex HALL after Robert Surcouf had taken his KENT, an Indiaman, on October 7th 1800 off Sand Heads (Bengal) ?
He was the first mate of Captain William RIVINGTON who died in the battle and taken as a prisoner of war.
Where could I find information about location and conditions of imprisonment of British officers & exchange procedures of officers ?
I would like to know more on John Essex Hall's special case but I'm interested in the issue in general as well.
Thank you for your kind attention and greetings from Brussels
