Marines 1770

Hello,
I am researching someone who claimed to have resigned his lieutenancy in the Marines sometime in the early to mid 1770s. He stated that it was submitted to the Secretary of the Admiralty. I do not find him in the Three Decks database, and can’t figure out how else to verify his service. His name was Thomas George L’Ennarde Barrette, or sometime written simply Thomas Barrett. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
