Henri-Louis Descorches de Sainte-Croix (1777-1810), Capitaine de frégate
(or d'Escorches)
He was son the French general, politician, and diplomat Marie Louis Henri d'Escorches de Sainte-Croix.
In 1805 he was Captain of the frigate Libre off Rochefort and was captured by the British frigates EGYPTIENNE and LOIRE (James, vol.III, 449-450).
In 1809 he was Captain of the La Danaé frigate. Early in the year left Toulon with La Flore bound to Corfu (Ionian Islands) with stores and ammunition.
In the night between 11-12 January 1810 he was assassinated in his quarters by the gunner Jacques Pierre Pellegry. According to the French historian Jean Savant, Henri-Louis had whipped the gunner (very anusual punishment for the French navy).
