I am interested in the last years of the brig sloop “Ferret” which was launched in 1821. Three-decks informs me that it was sold in January 1837. I understand that it was on the Nassau – Honduras station until towards the end of 1829 (Commander Drinkwater-Bethune), and then on the Mediterranean station (Commander Thomas Hastings / Commander Edward Wodehouse) until into 1831. Three decks has it as being sold in January 1837.
I am interested in the period between early 1835 and January 1837.
I have been looking at the Times and a packet brig named ‘Ferret’ was used on the Dover – Calais journey transporting many ‘worthy’ people (Ambassador to France, the King and Queen of the Belgians, and some others) between the two ports between March 1835 and October 1835 under the command of a Captain Hamilton. This brig had apparently been lengthened by 12 ft and converted to steam under his orders.
I am wondering if anyone can enlighten me as to whether these two ships – the brig sloop ‘Ferret’ and the packet brig ‘Ferret’ might well have been one and the same ship. I may be barking completely up the wrong tree, but would be more than grateful if someone were able to make comment.

Steamer FERRET was launched by William & Henry Pitcher, Blackwall
according to most sources
but there were no Pitcher shipard at Blackwall but in Nothfleet.
moreover Pitcher was not active at that time in shipbuilding.

Re: Brig sloop Ferret
I have received confirmation from frind of London
that steame packet was ordered from Pitcher in May 1831,
so in any case it was not the same vessel.
Moreover the brig HMS FERRET was laid up already in 1832.
