Brig-sloop Philomel (16) (Capt. George Crawley)

4 October 1809: In the squadron that captured the Island of Cephalonia (Ionian Sea, now Greece).
8 October 1809: Captured the Island of Ithaca (Ionian Sea, now Greece).
Sources, TNA: ADM 51/2686 Captain's Log; TNA: ADM 52/4562 Master's Log; The London Gazette No 16321.

The frigate HMS Spartan was sent to capture the Island of Cerigo (Kythera). From there fled the French-Neapolitan privateer L'Etoile de Bonaparte (8), and in the night between 12 and 13 October anchored in Zante (Zakynthos) harbour, apparently unaware that Zante as well was already captured by the British (3 October), exchanged fire with the garrison and made sail. The Philomel was anchored off Zante, saw the musketry on shore and cleared for action, chased and captured the privateer on the coast of Cephalonia (13 October). Took 37 prisoners, 10 escaped.

Do you have some details of the capture of Cephalonia and Ithaca? I have a friend who will be very interested.

The London Gazette is a good starting point. Plus, Collingwood's and Adair's published correspondence provides information, good to begin with.
