HEIC Captain Seekings1800's

I had the following request for information via email, can anyone help?
"My name is John Burrowes and I live in Canberra, Australia.
I have some documentation, that was in my mother’s possession, which provides some “hearsay information” which came to her from one of her cousins, many years ago.
The information relates to a CAPTAIN SEEKINGS (there is no Given Name included), who was, supposedly, a Ship’s Captain with the East India Company during the early 1800’s ) I believe. He was married with a daughter, and his family lived in England. The information indicates that he drowned in Calcutta, when he jumped overboard to save his cabin boy. There is no indication as to where he is buried.
His family subsequently came to Australia (in the 1820’s, I understand). His wife’s name was Mary Elizabeth Seekings (nee Ryan). Mrs Seekings remarried in Australia, and her daughter (Mary) married into a family (named Rixon) from whom I am descended, on my mother’s side.
Do you have access to any records of the East India Company, during the time-frame mentioned above, which might ‘shed some light’ on the mystery of Capt Seekings and the whereabouts of his burial.
Any information that you may have would be much appreciated."
