Thank you very much Navclio! I absolutely share your opinion on the non-use of the English flag (red cross on white) as a sign of recognition during an attack in the period under review.
Likewise, I do not think that the corsairs of Guernsey used the specific flag of the bailiff. In the report I quoted above, the captain of the French ship would have specified this particularity by writing "flag of Guernsey".
